What to Expect

Welcome to Active Family Chiropractic!

Patients young and old enjoy the benefits of chiropractic care, and the force of the adjustment is gentle enough for all patients. My sons have been receiving chiropractic care since they were each one day old. Before your treatment, I’ll happily demonstrate the amount of pressure that I use in an adjustment, so you’ll know exactly what to expect. For parents with concerns about having their young children adjusted, I can tell you that babies are usually the easiest patients to adjust. The force required to perform the adjustment is much less than what’s needed for an adult, and babies will almost tell me where they need help.

Your First Visit

Before your first visit, please download our new patient paperwork from the website and complete it as thoroughly as possible. If you don’t have a printer or don’t have time to complete the paperwork in advance, that’s okay. Just arrive a few minutes early for your visit, and we’ll help you finish it in the office.

The first time you visit our office, you should allow 45 to 60 minutes for your appointment. You’ll be greeted by a member of our staff and will meet with Dr. Trenary to discuss your medical history. Your exam will begin with the Insight Subluxation Station. This state-of-the-art machine helps Dr. Trenary find out as much as he can about your condition and how he might help. The machine is used to perform three assessments:

  • Heart rate variability – demonstrates how you handle daily stress
  • Rolling thermal – shows stress on your organs and glands
  • Surface EMG – assesses electrical activity in the muscles

Dr. Trenary often gets additional information from patient X-rays, taken right on-site for your convenience. After a thorough physical exam, Dr. Trenary will have the information he needs to help you shape your treatment plan. He will review the information and will present you with his suggestions at your next visit. Before you leave, you may receive one of many therapies that are designed to help you find more immediate relief. These may include muscle stimulation, traction, or hot or cold therapies.

Your Second Visit

At your next visit, Dr. Trenary will discuss with you his report of findings. You’ll discuss the results of the examinations from your last visit, and you’ll talk about the treatment plan that’s right for you. Dr. Trenary bases his treatment recommendations on your medical history, your COREscore (the results of the assessments conducted using the Insight Subluxation Station), your X-rays and your physical exam. At this point, you’ll be ready for your first adjustment. This second visit typically lasts 20 to 30 minutes.

Future Visits

Adjustment visits will typically be very quick, so Dr. Trenary can get you back to your busy day. Dr. Trenary will reassess your progress by performing re-exams and using the Insight Subluxation Station. These assessment visits may take a bit longer, but they are the best way to accurately measure how well chiropractic is helping.

New Patient Orientation

Our office also offers new patient orientation sessions twice a month on Monday evenings. We’ll talk about what chiropractic is and how it can help you and review the different stages of recovery, from pain relief to stabilization to maintenance. We’ll also give you an idea of what to expect from your visits.
